Please note: this article is intended for Dialogue account administrators.

The Administrative Portal only supports files encoded in the UTF-8 CSV format.

The error message "File encoding is not supported" will appear when uploading files saved in any other format (including CSV formats other than UTF-8).

Here is how to save your member list in UTF-8 CSV format in commonly used programs:

Google Sheets:

  1. Open the Google Sheets document you wish to download in a CSV UTF-8 format.

  2. Click on “File”, then ”Download”, and finally ”Comma-Separated Values (.csv)” to save the file to your computer.

The file will now be in UTF-8 encoding, and can be successfully uploaded into the Administrative Portal.

Microsoft Excel for Windows:

  1. Open the Microsoft Excel file you wish to download in a CSV UTF-8 format.

  2. Click on “File” and “Save As”.

  3. Select “Browse”

  4. Under the “Type” dropdown menu, select “CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)”.

  5. Click “Save”.

The file will now be in UTF-8 encoding, and can be successfully uploaded into the Administrative Portal.

Microsoft Excel for Mac

  1. Open the Microsoft Excel file you wish to download in a CSV UTF-8 format.

  2. Click “File” and “Save As”.

  3. In the “File Format” dropdown menu, select “CSV UTF-8 (Comma delimited)”

  4. Click “Save”.

The file will now be in UTF-8 encoding, and can be successfully uploaded into the Administrative Portal.

Numbers for Mac

  1. Open the file you wish to download in a CSV UTF-8 format.

  2. Click “File” and “Export To”.

  3. Select the “CSV” tab, and under the “Advanced Options”, select “Unicode (UTF-8)”

  4. Click “Save”.

The file will now be in UTF-8 encoding, and can be successfully uploaded into the Administrative Portal.
