CSV encoding

If you receive the error message: "File encoding is not supported. "

Updated over a week ago

The current HR Administration Portal does not support any CSV files that are not in the UTF-8 format. An error can occur when uploading CSV files if the software you are using saves your file in a different type of encoding.

You can fix this by changing how the software you are using encodes files. Here is how to do so for commonly used programs:

Google Drive

1. Go to Google Drive
2. Create a new Google Sheets document
3. In the new Google Sheets document, import your CSV file
4. Once you import your file, you can click on File ➡️Download As ➡️Comma-Separated Values to save the file to your computer

The file should now be in UTF-8 encoding, and it will successfully upload.

Microsoft Excel for Mac

1. Open the file you wish to upload in Excel

2. Click File ➡️ Save As

3. You will see the Save dialog box. Via the File Format dropdown menu, select the CSV UTF-8 option

4. Click Save

The file should now be in UTF-8 encoding, and it will successfully upload.

Microsoft Excel for Windows

1. Open the file you wish to upload in Excel

2. Click on File ➡️Save As

3. Select Browse

4. Select the drop down the list and select Save as type

5. Select CSV-UTF8

6. Click Save

The file should now be in UTF-8 encoding, and it will successfully upload.
